The Greatest Super Bowl Ever Played
The New England Patriots are officially the best team in the NFL for the 2016/2017 year. With the victory over the Falcons 34-28 (OT) they become five-time Super Bowl champions.
1st Quarter
What a way to start a game. We all thought both offenses would be flying high. Both Atlanta and New England’s defenses forced two punts each. The biggest play of the first half goes to Devonta Freeman who took a toss play for 37 yards.
2nd Quarter
The second play of the first half turned the momentum fully to Atlanta. Deion Jones ripped the ball away from Legarrette Blount giving Atlanta the first turnover of the game. Freeman and Julio Jones would take over the drive; Jones 2 catches for 42 yards and Freeman 29 rush yards including a 5-yard touchdown run to take the lead 7-0. Atlanta would score two more times thanks to a 19-yard catch by TE Austin Hooper and an 82-yard pick-six by Robert Alford. Steven Gostkowski would later score at the end of the first half. Atlanta had the lead 21-3 with first possession at the start of the second half.
3rd Quarter
The most significant moment during this quarter? Taylor Gabriel and his head fake putting Malcolm Butler on skates. Tevin Coleman would later catch a six-yard touchdown to take the lead 28-3.
A lot of people were probably calling the game over when it was 28-3 Falcons midway through the third quarter. But thanks to Tom Brady the Patriots had the greatest come-back in NFL history. With a deficit of 19 heading into the fourth quarter the game seemed to be decided.
The football gods laughed at everyone except for one guy:
This. Game. Is. Not. Over. #SuperBowlLI

James white then caught a five-yard touchdown with Gostkowski missing the XP making it 28-9. Shortly after, the fun would begin.
4th Quarter
Gostkowski opened up the 19-point fourth quarter performance with a 32-yard field goal. Dont’a Hightower would force a fumble, New England recovered. Dwight Freeney recorded a sack two plays later. Danny Amendola then would catch a touchdown pass and White would convert the two-point conversion making it 28-20 Falcons. White would then run it in for one yard to make it a two-point game. Brady would throw a screen pass to Amendola for a successful two points tying the game at 28.
Overtime
The Patriots got the ball first and with Brady’s hand from God would lead his team down the field. White would run it in to win the game 34-28.
A few records were tied and broken on this most epic of nights:
- Grady Jarrett - DT - Atlanta Falcons ties for most sacks in Super Bowl history.
- First game to ever go into OT in Super Bowl history.
- James White - RB - 14 catches most in Super Bowl history.
- Tom Brady – QB – Most passing yards Super Bowl history (466)
- Brady now has five rings, four Super Bowl MVP’s and a legacy that will last a lifetime.
With this night over and 6 more months to wait for football to begin again I leave you with this:
Okay Brady .. retire now please
