The Unpredictable Predictions of the 2025-2026 NFL Season

It’s hard to believe that it is pro football time again! The NFL is set to kick off on Thursday, September 4th with a league opening game between the Eagles and Cowboys with Dallas no longer having Micah Parsons trading him off to the Green Bay Packers in one of the most surprising moments in the offseason.

As I do every year with Abstract Sports, I run through the entire NFL schedule week-by-week, game-by-game and making a prediction on the winners. Last year it didn’t work out so well as with my final standings I did get five of the eight division winners correct but only five of the 32 teams final won/loss records right. In a word…OUCH.

So here we go again with a season that is upon us and much excitement and anticipation with so many players changing teams, intriguing draft choices playing their first year in the NFL, and high hopes for some teams that have endured a lag in the playoffs or playoff picture. Naturally, there is no way to predict injuries that will occur or how well and perhaps badly a player might perform.

Regardless, take these predictions with a grain of salt. The end results will probably not reflect these predictions but then again, maybe I’ll be luckier in 2025. I have these teams winning their divisions.

Starting with the AFC:

  • Buffalo
  • Baltimore
  • Houston
  • Kansas City (again)

In the NFC:

  • Philadelphia
  • Green Bay
  • Tampa
  • Los Angeles Rams

The final records are below, but in the AFC East, Justin Fields will not be the hero the Green and White fans hope him to be. The Bills are still kings here and Miami is just not good enough to keep pace. The AFC North will be interesting as I have the Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals all finishing 10-7 so one of those teams probably won’t be going to the playoffs depending on how the rest of the AFC turns out.

No teams in the AFC South did enough to take over for the Texans so I have that team on top again. Finally in the west, Pete Carroll won’t be able to get the Raiders back on top just yet. The Chiefs still rule although the much improved Denver Broncos should be breathing down their necks. The Chargers won’t be far behind.

In the NFC, there are some believing Jayden Daniels and his Washington Commanders can make a run at the Super Bowl. They will be finishing with a winning record, but the Eagles are still defending champions and a great team. In the NFC North, many believe the acquisition of Micah Parsons by the Packers puts them over the top. I’m not a believer in a one man show so just because Parsons being one of the best players in the league may help win some games, but I don’t think that automatically makes Green Bay the favorites in the NFC.

In the South, Tampa is still clearly the best team, but they won’t be big winners. The last division is the west and that will belong to the Rams although as you can see, I have them on top tied with everyone else. The odds of all four teams winning only eight games are clearly a near impossibility, but that’s just how it came out for me. Weirder things have happened but with all four teams at 8-9 I give the edge to the Rams.

Again, don’t take these predictions too seriously fans. I’m betting once again they won’t reflect final standings but then again who knows? The bottom line is it’s fun to try and if they come out accurate, I’ll be shocking myself.

Be sure to come back to Abstract Sports when the season begins in less than a week as I will be providing my week-by-week, game-by-game predictions with final scores. Until then…GO STEELERS!
