Key Sporting Events in the US 2026 Calendar
Fans in the United States have been spoilt for choice this year, with the calendar packed with a plethora of top-class sporting events.
The recent National Basketball Association (NBA) championship decider between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs was one of the highlights of the first half of the year.
The public demand for reliable NBA streams was off the scale as the Knicks secured a 4-1 series victory to claim the prestigious title for the first time since 1973.
While the 2025/26 NBA season is now done and dusted, sports fans in the US still have plenty of major events to look forward to over the next six months.
FIFA World Cup Final – New Jersey - July 19
The ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico has already produced a series of hugely thrilling matches.
Most of the fancied teams have delivered statement performances, and it will be intriguing to see which of them progresses to the final in New Jersey.
Defending champions Argentina have been in fine form, and it would be no surprise if talismanic forward Lionel Messi helped them retain the trophy.
France, Spain, Brazil and Germany also look like good bets to make a deep run at the tournament and will fancy their chances of dethroning Argentina.
United States Open Tennis Championships – New York – August 30 – September 13
The US Open Tennis Championships is the final Grand Slam of the year. It consists of five primary events - men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles.
Jannick Sinner (2024) and Carlos Alcaraz (2025) have won the men’s singles title in the last two years and are expected to be in contention this time around.
Aryna Sabalenka will head into the women’s singles bidding to win the tournament for the third consecutive year and it would be a brave move to bet against her achieving the feat.
Sabalenka was a finalist at the French Open earlier this year and be confident that she can emerge victorious in one of her favourite events.
Major League Baseball World Series – Venues TBC – October 23 - 31
The 2026 Major League Baseball (MLB) season will culminate with the championship deciding World Series from October 23-31.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed the title in each of the last two years and have been performing well during the regular season this time around.
While questions have been asked about their veteran defensive unit, the Dodgers are guaranteed to be a tough nut to crack when the play-offs eventually get underway.
The New York Yankees are rated by the bookmakers as the biggest threat to the Dodgers. The 27-time World Series winners have not clinched the MLB title since 2009.
Breeders’ Cup World Championships – Keeneland – October 30-31
The Breeders’ Cup World Championships is the culmination of the international horse racing calendar on the flat. This year’s event will be staged at Keeneland in Kentucky.
The two-day meeting features a series of championship races in different age categories and over different distances. Each race crowns the champion in their respective category.
The standout race is undoubtedly the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, which attracts the winners of the US Triple Crown races and top-class international entrants.
Japanese superstar Forever Young claimed a truly memorable victory in last year’s Classic and will bid to defend his title in the Bluegrass State on October 31.
